With Britain's announcement that the ancient Druid Cult is to be given offiicial recognition as a major religion, ancestors of the Texas Gulf Coast region's Carancahua Indians are seeking state permission to purchase a meeting site near the South Texas location where Irish and German Pioneers were massacred and eaten in 1838.

"That was a long time ago," said Joe Firemaker, leader of the tribal coalition. "We don't know what happened back then and we don't think it fair to hold us responsible for something we had nothing to do with. Most of us prefer Frenchmen and Mexicans to Irish and Germans anyway, but we have no great aversion to Irish and Germans either," said Firemaker from the Capital steps in Austin, Texas.
