"I was always afraid that something like this would happen," said Middleton Mulligan, the 92 year-old father of John Birch "Slice" Mulligan and his twin brother Morgan Trotsky "Hook" Mulligan from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
"Growing up in the Midwest was no guarantee that your kids would be middle of the road in their politics. Frankly, I could never tell the two boys apart from each other except for when they opened their mouths or picked up a golf club. One was right handed and the other left. Same thing with their politics," said the grieving father and nephew of John "Buddy" Mulligan of Essex Fells Country Clubs in N.J. for whom the golf term for "do overs" or "Mulligan" was named. "There's no chance for them doing anything over now," said Mr. Mulligan as tears streamed down his puffy reddish cheeks.
"It all started when John said to Morgan that Obama's wife's position at the Chicago law firm that dated back to its role as defender of Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln proves that the Obama's are closet Republicans," said Morgans' wife, Priscilla Mulligan. "I was on the phone when John made the comment and then I heard a "thud-thud". That sound was apparently the putter heads of each brother's putter hitting their head's almost simultaneously.
The two men were found by grounds keeper Oscar Pena Ruiz as he made his golf course rounds at the Stone Briar Country club in the Cedar Rapids suburb of Liberty at the end of the day Thursday, August 26.
The brothers' ashes were laid to rest in the Mulligan family mausoleum in the Green Acres Cemetery on Saturday, August 28th. "I will be laid to rest between my two boys," said Middleton Mulligan as he pointed to the attractive urns he had chosen at Mobidison's Funeral Home. One urn was red, the other blue.
The truth may set you free, but finding the truth is like playing tennis. You don't get a hint of it until you've returned the volley about three or four times. The mainstream media counts on the masses never returning what's served up. Journalism today has become a caricature not unlike what Robert Lynd describes by saying "Research without an actively selective point of view is like the ditty bag of an idiot, filled with bits of pebbles, straw, feathers and other random hoardings."
