Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention Act Not To Senator Coburn's Liking

Okie Senator Coburn Bogarting Suicide Prevention Funding For VETS

Oklahoma U.S. Senator, Dr. Tom Coburn, now known as "Dr. No" for his rejection of a bill that will reduce GI suicides began his Senate speech against the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention Act by saying "My grandfather was awarded the Croix de Guerre, the highest honor the French give for his work during World War I."

Appearing on MSNBC's Ed Schultz Show, former U.S. Marine and Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, Montel Williams, said "Vets are killing themselves at the rate of 22 a day.  This is the Christmas gift that Dr. Coburn gives our VETS?  We can only hope that the bill will be reintroduced in 100 days.  Meanwhile, we loose 2,200 VETS."

Farnsworth Symington of the Center for the Analysis of Political Trickery said "this has all the earmarks of the introduction of an unpopular political position to skew the political landscape in a particular direction.   What physician is going to be against treating soldiers for Post Traumatic Syndrone?  So Coburn is an aberration?   Huh!  Imagine this....he takes a wildly unpopular position which will have the effect of pushing Republicans of the far right to the center by disengaging them from their right fringe of which Coburn is a leading wing nut.  Who benefits from that?   JEB Bush.  The Return of the Bush monarchy is the result and a restarting of a new era of Bush bamboozling," said Symington.
