The Washington Post: Western Outpost of Journalistic Bamboozling?

      Shortly before his death, David Carr, the outspoken and fiery reporter for the New York Times who adamantly defended Gary Webb’s investigation of the CIA following the publication of his book Dark Alliance in 1996 defended the 2014 film Kill The Messenger, the story of Webb’s life.

      Unlike David Carr, Jeff Leen,  who had debated Webb in 1997 in a debate organized and moderated by University of Missouri’s Dr. Steve Weinberg, was not so affirming.  Following the release of Kill the Messenger, Leen wrote the Washington Post article “Gary Webb Was No Journalistic Hero.”

      In 1992 a book by the Houston Post reporter, Peter Brewton, titled The Mafia, CIA and George Bush was scheduled to be published by Simon & Schuster.   Brewton’s editor had been assigned Alice Mayhew.  Mayhew was the editor of the Washington Post’s celebrated Watergate investigators Woodward & Bernstein whose  book ultimately cost Nixon his Presidency, All The President’s Men.   Their story was covered in the movie starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, the film of the same name.    Redford will be seen again on October 16, 2015 in another political drama about a journalist, Dan Rather, in the film adaptation of Mary Mape’s book Truth and Duty. 
     Journalists are waiting with baited breath to see just how this film about Rather's 2004 60 Minutes story about George W. Bush's Texas Air National Guard memos handles the fact that this story was known to Mapes and Rather in 2000, in fact, earlier.   Some are wondering just how the film handles the place of Mrs. Marian Carr Knox who typed the original memos and her son Patrick Carr who affirmed his mother’s testimony even after a visit to his mother from former U.S. Attorney General for Reagan and Bush, Dick Thornburgh from Pennsylvania.   Thornburgh as Attorney General under Reagan and Bush was no stranger to memos, having created the "Thornburgh Memo" that essentially violated long held Constitutional safeguards in the U.S..  Thornburgh's attack on Knox essentially matched that of Leen against Webb's credibility in 1997 and 2014.  As the Bush family consigliore Thornburgh would go on from his task of discrediting Marian Carr Knox to discrediting former FBI Director Louis Freeh in his investigation into the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State, a role that now has Thornburgh on a Paterno family web-site with a non-delineating attack of the flaws in Freeh's Penn State investigation for the University Board.  Coach Joe Paterno had delivered a key note address at the same 1988 Republican National Convention where Larry King, another ringleader of a child-abuse scandal in Omaha, Nebraska, literally sang the National Anthem.  Much has been made of the connections between the Sandusky scandal and the King scandal in Omaha known as "The Franklin Coverup."  Not ironically, it was the week of the Penn State-Nebraska game, the second week of November, 2011, that the Sandusky story broke.

      CIA agent and National Security Council advisor under Stanfield Turner, John Stockwell, was in charge of three secret wars of the CIA including Angola and has been an outspoken critic of the Washington Post.  Stockwell noted well the role that the Washington Post held in the bamboozling of the nation through media maniplation long before its Metro Editor, Vernon Loeb, approved the compromised stories of Pat Tillman’s death, Jessica Lynch’s rescue and before Loeb wrote with Paula Broadwell All In:  The Education of General David Petraeus.   Loeb’s arrival in Houston where he became the Managing Editor for the Houston Chronicle on the heels of Michael Bromwich’s departure from his task of “cleaning up” the corruption at the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office where Bromwich was paid from a fund built from confiscated drug money to the tune of several million dollars. Bromwich had been the lead prosecutor in the Iran-Contra scandal who insured that the indictments based on the violation of the Boland Amendment went no higher than Weinberger, Poindexter, North and Abrams.   John Stockwell said of  the CIA’s view of Watergate, a story among all the possibilities that had the Washington Post taking the lead on targeting a President who had pulled the plug on the Vietnam war and who had criticized the power elites who gather annually at the Bohemian Grove.  “We were mortified and terrified," said Stockwell,  "because here’s some guys being on trial, a President was being thrown out of office, eighteen members of his staff went to jail including the Attorney General for a little breaking and entering operation and covering it up.  I mean, you know, you’re suppose to do three of those before breakfast.” (CSPAN, John Stockwell, “Secret Wars of the CIA”, at 2:44:10).

      Simon and Shuster Publishers and Alice Mayhew essentially stalled the 1992 Brewton book, a story he covers in the introduction that linked Iran-Contra to the nation's S&L scandal.    By 1996 the San Jose Mercury News’ reporter, Gary Webb, was in conversation with Brewton (at 42:40 of IRE debate) who had made the connections between the CIA’s secret war in Nicaragua and showing that the criminal bankers overlapped like the lapstrake hull of an unseaworthy wooden tender.  Webb will reference this conversation with Brewton in his debate with Jeff Leen in 1997.  The Washington Post’s hitman, Leen, who becomes his most transparent in the IRE debate with Gary Webb after Webb uses the testimony of the U.S. General Accounting Office and Dick Thronburgh as evidence of his Dark Alliance thesis (IRE Webb/Leen debate at 34:32 following).  Leen whose boss became, to David Carr’s amazement, the “new Dumbledore” at Columbia University as the Henry Luce Professor of Journalism and head of the Journalism School, Steve Coll, has been relentless in his attack on Webb’s work.

      The father of a boy whose name matched that of the son of the key witness in the Dan Rather and Mary Mapes’ story of GWB’s Ellington Field Texas Air National Guard memo’s wrote to the University of Missouri’s Professor Emeritus, Dr. Steve Weinberg, and asked about his memories of the debate between Webb and Leen.   “Leen was one of my students,” said Weinberg who recently suffered a stoke.  “I disagreed with Leen on the Webb assessment,” he said.   His writings confirm his position while the University of Missouri which produced the wife of CBS icon and predecessor of Dan Rather, Walter Cronkite, helped underwrite the work of Investigative Reporters and Investigators or IRE that hosted the Webb/Leen debate in 1997. 

      It would be incorrect to say that IRE’s voices all sing in the same choir.  T. Christian Miller whose book Blood Money begins with the chapter on Col. Theodore “Ted” Westhusing, whose alleged suicide in the Iraqi Green Zone following a bitter confrontation with General David Petraeus, may serve to underscore the breadth of IRE’s representation, but so does Westhusing’s questionable death serve to shine a light on the death of Gary Webb, not to mention the 2000 suicide by hanging in Brooklyn of Mark Lombardi following his disclosure of the Iran-Contra flow chart in artwork that became an exhibit at the Whitney Museum.  Webb died on the day that he resigned from the San Jose Mercury News in 1997, December 10, 2004 shortly after the Bush victory over John Kerry whose investigation into Iran-Contra confirmed Webb’s book and research, a fact that Leen does not mention. 

      Steve Weinberg was contacted by the father of the 23 year old whose body was found on December 10, 2000 near Elllington Field who had recently moved to Houston from Austin where he had worked with the niece of Dan Rather.  In Houston he stayed with his uncle, the fishing partner of William E. King, the attorney and business partner of James R. Bath, GWB’s Texas Air National Guard roommate, the focus of the FinCEN investigation into Saudi influence peddling that received a “standdown” order in 1992 during the Bush/Clinton/Perot election.  Mary Mapes discloses in Truth and Duty that the GWB memo story was known to her first in 1999, but was not covered by 60 Minutes until the 2004 Rather report.  Two days before the 2000 Presidential election was decided by the Supreme Court, this young man, Patrick Carr, died.   His name matched that of the son of Rather and Mape’s key witness who would defend his mother's assertions even after a visit from Bush attorney Dick Thornburgh and the Associated Press’ head, Louis Boccardi.  The Patrick Carr who had worked in Austin with Rebecca Rather’s company spent 1977-1980 at Austin Presbyterian Seminary, the alma mater of Peter Brewton’s father, where Patrick Carr’s father had been the student assistant of Dr. Robert S. Paul, a church history professor and authority on the Westminster Confession of Faith who in 1950 had been at New Haven, Connecticut and was credited by William Barnett Benton for his political victory over GWB’s grandfather, Prescott Bush, in the U.S. Senate race that featured a brutal assault on Benton, reminiscent of the Willie Horton campaign by Senator Joseph McCarthy against which Robert S. Paul had defended Benton.  "I didn't know any of this before my son's death," said the father who agrees that Webb's connections to Brewton in a city where Mark Lombardi had painted a clear picture of the claims that Leen and the Washington Post denied ..."puts decent citizens in incredible danger from a class of classless cowards," said the young man's father, who agrees that the Fourth Estate is sleeping in the U.S.A. and that the Washington Post appears to be the training base for all reporters wishing to become Mr. Sandman.

      Jeff Leen was contacted by the father of the other Patrick Carr just as he had contacted Steve Weinberg.   His letters to and from follow:

Alternatively, you could fly to Houston.  I could introduce to you the private investigator, Gregory Howard Walker, the U.S. Postal Inspector turned lawyer and security expert recommended to us by Bronislaw Mogenis, Lockheed Martin's security advisor, and his daughter to find for us the last person our son saw that night.....Careen.....which Walker took six months to find, was not the right one, charged us thousands and then became the head of airport security for Bush International, Hobby and Ellington Airports.  Julie Mogenis, a Houston judge and former FBI agent like her father was nearly killed in a rare hunting accident in Utopia, Texas....no Utopia here, my friend.
 

We can visit the Fire Department that responded to the call on December 10, 2000 and ask William E. King, Jim Bath's lawyer and partner in Southwest Airport Services just why he and his associates at Bracewell & Giuliani are seeking to privatize the fireman's pension fund.
 

I can take you to visit the boat that our son was on that night....a boat owned by Halliburton executive William R. Breland, sold to his son-in-law, Thomas Hajecate, who was indicted and convicted in Operation Lone Star that had been used in money laundering and capital flight.....in the textbook by Professor Ingo at Columbia University.  I can show you the Bin Laden's airport site that is now a subdivision and the house along the tarmac I tracked to parties from the boat that night.  We can go to Dallas and put to Buck Revell why the FINCEN investigation went dormant in 1991-92!

I can show you the photos of Patrick's uncle fishing with William E. King in Alaska and his denials that he knows him!

 

I can show you.....well....there's so much.....you'll be writing a corrective to your article on Webb and praying to whatever journalistic deity you worship for less transparency or forgiveness!

This may well give you and the WP the story you need to regain your credibility!

Here is my assessment of Peter Brewton's book which Gary Webb referenced in his debate with Jeff Leen.  Peter's father and I went to the same seminary where I was the student assistant to Robert S. Paul who in 1950 was credited by William Barnett Benton for his victory over Prescott Bush in the Conn. Senate race for his defense of Benton against the attack of Sen. Joseph McCarthy.  Didn't now that until after Patrick's death.

I first read Peter Brewton's book in 2001 after the death of my 23 year old son whose body was found near Ellington Field, Houston in his burned out Ford Bronco two days before the Supreme Court decided the hanging chad debate in Florida and when any derogatory information about GWB could have swayed the court's decision. Had the world shifted under new U.S. leadership away from the fossil fuel cartel focused in Houston, the Vatican, Mecca and Medina of fossil fuel production, it would have been a very different world and Middle-East. In 1992 Brewton's book was purposely stalled to prevent its influence on that election...the GHWB, Clinton, Perot battle. Brewton was originally contracted with publisher Simon & Schuster which had provided Alice Mayhew, Woodward and Bernstein's editor on ALL THE PREDISENT'S MEN, as Pete's editor. Watergate was child's play compared to what this book accurately depicts and the S&L situation that Peter uncovered in Houston connected directly these bandits with the Iran-Contra network....the same one that Gary Webb had uncovered in Los Angeles. They were with the same players. In 2000/2001 a string of deaths and corporate scandals like Enron revealed even more....with Enron, WorldCom and other scandals made possible by Bill Clinton's 11th hour repeal of Glass-Steagall Act. That action was as telling as Clinton's compliance in the Arkansas-based Barry Seal program at Mena, all covered in another book titled COMPROMISED by Terry Reed.

I have talked with Peter numerous times and have taken great interest in his work and that of Gary Webb, author of DARK ALLIANCE. In Webb's debate with Jeff Leen of The Washington Post, Leen throws Webb under the bus not only then, but also after the release of the 2014 film, KILL THE MESSENGER. In his debate with Leen, Webb referred specifically to Pete Brewton's book. That was the explosive connection that could NOT come out. Gary Webb died on the same day, December 10th in 2004 that he resigned from his position at the San Jose Mercury News in 1997 and on the same day as Patrick Carr's death in 2000, December 10th. The medical examiner's report on Webb's death was as unbelievable as that of my son's whose name matched the name that of Patrick Carr, son of Marian Carr Knox, the Ellington Field secretary who would recant her story costing in 2004 Dan Rather and Mary Mapes their jobs at CBS. Our son found himself in an unbelievable convergence of dark alliances at a place and time of incredible danger....the lead up to a bitterly contested U.S. Presidential election. The dark alliances that Peter Brewton and Gary Webb disclose in two seemingly unconnected locations....Texas and California....are not unconnected at all. That is precisely what made anyone close to these two live wires and the stories they had uncovered in danger of a serious jolt.

In fact, the Bush crime family saga is much older than the Bush crime family saga. It is covered in the 2015 book SULFUR, LEAD and POPPIES. As Peter's book shows and as CIA Director Allan Dulles said "Americans don't read." If we did things would be much different and we would likely get the leadership we really need and that the republic and world deserves. With 2016 approaching and another Bush circling the drain, its good to read this book again or for the first time. Eye-opening!

     I listened with interest to your NPR story about the Mark Lombardi art work.  There has been some speculation about the death of Mr. Lombardi in 2000 “by his own hand”.  As you well know he worked like Donald Barthelme at the Houston Contemporary Art Museum with the De Menil Collection.  I was close friends with John Domercq, an elder at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston, who had been the VP for Acquisitions for Schlumberger, the Dominique De Menil family company.

      Do you know if there was any connection between Donald Barthelme’s wife, Marian Knox, and Mrs. Marian Carr Knox, the key witness to the Dan Rather and Mary Mapes story that is the subject of the October 16, 2015 premier of the film TRUTH based on Mapes’ book Truth and Duty?

     There was a significant number of mysterious deaths in 2000 in the months before the Presidential election.  Have you done anything in terms of your knowledge of just what may have led Mark Lombardi who took such an interest in the intricacies of life to take his own?

     My own son died in Houston under mysterious circumstances on the anniversary of the death of Gary Webb, author of Dark Alliance who had referred to Peter Brewton's work in Houston during his debate* just after Dark Alliance was published with the Washington Post's Jeff Leen.  Brewton's work at the Houston Post and in his 1992 book, The Mafia, CIA and George Bush, uncovered the undeniable relationship between the Iran-Contra network and the 1980's S&L scandal.  

     Given the close relationship between NPR and the US Information Agency with key connections like those between Pete Peterson and Henry Catto, the Texan and former Ambassador to  El Salvador, did you sense that your story on Lombardi was really welcomed on its own merits or that is was being "managed"?  Were you surprised when the Harris County Medical Examiner's office in Houston was "investigated" for corruption by Michael Bromwich the former Iran-Contra prosecutor?  We're you surprised when the Washington Post's Metro Editor became the Managing Editor of the Houston Post's competitor, the Houston Chronicle, in as much as Vernon Loeb approved the front page accounts of the altered Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch stories as well as co-writing the biography of General David Petraeus with Paula Broadwell, All In: The Education of General David Petraeus?

* The debate between Jeff Leen and Gary Webb which took place shortly after 911 was moderated and organized by University of Missouri journalism professor emeritus, Steve Weinberg, founder of the IRE Journal.  Jeff Leen had been one of Dr. Weinberg's students.  Weinberg claims to have disagreed with Leen's position on Gary Webb's story.  Indeed, he wrote in one assessment of Webb's coverage...“Even if Webb overreached in a few paragraphs — based on my careful reading, I would say his overreaching was limited, if it occurred at all — he still had a compelling, significant investigation to publish.”  Webb didn't overreach.  Leen would continue even after the release of the film Kill the Messenger to discredit Webb with an article "Gary Webb Was No Journalistic Hero," a position opposed by the NY Times, David Carr. Weinberg's IRE is a University of Missouri journalistic clearing house and support group in Washington D.C..  The NPR story normalizes the suicide of Mark Lombardi when questions remain.  It then de-legitimized his work as "six degrees of separation" as if to say...."there's nothing really here and if there is, it's easily manufactured from a vivid imagination."  Hobbs legitimized Lombardi's work and his tenacity in using art to imitate life....its dark, perhaps darkest side. Gary Webb resigned his position with the San Jose Mercury News on December 10, 1997.  Webb's alleged two-shot to the head suicide was on December 10, 2004 shortly after the 2004 Bush victory over Senator John Kerry whose work in U.S. Congress and the Senate had confirmed Gary Webb's research.  Patrick Carr, same name as the son of Mrs. Marian Carr Knox's son, Patrick Carr, who defended her testimony in the Rather/Mapes story was found in his burning Ford Bronco near Ellington Field and the Bin Laden's Houston Gulf Manor Airport on December 10, 2000 as the U.S. Supreme Court was deciding the appointment of GWB after the contested Florida election.  Mark Lombardi's art had traced the Bush/Bath/Bin Laden orbit in Houston without making the connections to the complimentary evidence from Peter Brewton's The Mafia CIA and George Bush and Gary Webb's Dark Alliance.  Brewton's father, a Presbyterian minister attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas and Princeton Presbyterian Theological Seminary, was, like Patrick Carr's father, a Texas Presbyterian Minister. After Patrick's death his father learned that Professor Robert S. Paul for whom he had been a student assistant, Paul formerly of New Haven Seminary in Connecticut, had supported civil rights activist William Burnett Benton for the U.S. Senate race.  Paul was credited by Benton's for his victory over Prescott Bush in the 1950 Connecticut Senatorial race when Paul defended Benton against a smear campaign by Senator Joseph McCarthy.

An Interview with the father of Patrick Carr

In December 2000 as the U.S. Presidential election was being decided by the U.S. Supreme Court Patrick Carr was found dead near Houston's Ellington Field the home to the Texas Air National Guard and focus of the upcoming movie based on Mary Mapes' book Truth and Duty.  Patrick Carr is the name of the son of Mrs. Marian Carr Knox who defended his mother's testimony in 2004.  It was upon that testimony that Dan Rather and Mary Mapes' story was based.  Mrs. Knox's story had been known since the event occurred in the 1970's.  Was this death during the hotly contested 2000 election a coincidence or to send a message to silence critics?

WC:  You have made some astounding claims about the death of your son in Houston on December 10, 2000.   With the upcoming film based on Mary Mapes' book Truth and Duty released on October 16, 2015 what would you like to say? 

WHC:  I will say only one thing about that.  Well, I have made a statement elsewhere and it is enough.  Here:

When in 1994 I was approached by Dr. Jack Stotts, President of Austin Presbyterian Seminary, to help raise money for tuition for Carlos Emilio Ham, the head of the Reformed Church in Cuba I had no idea that Albert Lasaster Maher* who had taken a group of students to Cuba in the 60's through Czechoslovakia only to be hauled before Congress was related to the person who wrote the history of my local church. I didn't know that the Bush's were Presbyterians when in Midland. I didn't know that John Stockwell, the head of the CIA's Angola mission in the 60's and who left the CIA in disgust to write the book In Search of Enemies was a Presbyterian born in Angleton, Texas and then moved to Austin where Patrick worked in the company (Ella's, 616 Ranch and Rather Sweet) of Dan Rather's niece, Rebecca Rather, nor did I know that Peter Brewton who had written The Mafia, CIA and George Bush for the Houston Post was Presbyterian and that his father went  to Presbyterian Austin College whose benefactor was founder of the Mosher Defense Institute headed by former Rice University President like Kenneth Pitzer, Frank Vandiver. Patrick had been befriended in Austin by the wife of Paul P. Kennedy, Dianna Southwood Kennedy.  Paul Kennedy had written, leaked if you will before the invasion, for the NY Times and The Nation the story of the secret CIA base at Retalhuleu, Guatemala where the Bay of Pigs was planned. I didn't know that our Patrick was dating a girl who lived catty cornered to Harold "Hal" Fenney the head of  Guantanamo Bay during the Bay of Pigs. I didn't know that John H. "Jack" Modesett who was from Corpus Christi and for whom the scout hut at St. John's Church is named, was teaching a Sunday school class at First Presbyterian Church, Houston and was the number two at Guantanamo behind Fenney. I surely didn't know about Dan Rather's key witness in his 2004 Ellington Field memo scandal story was Marian Carr Knox whose son was also named Patrick Carr or that my brother-in-law with whom Patrick was temporarily staying was fishing buddy of the lawyer and business partner of GWB's Air National Guard roommate, James R. Bath of Southwest Airport Services and in 1992 the focus of FinCEN, the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the government investigation into Saudi influence peddling in the U.S.. I didn't know that Gary Webb had resigned from the San Jose Mercury News on December 10, 1997, the day of Patrick's similar "suicide" in 2000 when the Rather story was, according to Mapes, available to the nation. By December 10, 2004 I was fully aware of the coincidence of Webb's two shot to the head suicide and about corrupt medical examiners which in Houston was visited by the Iran-Contra firewaller, Michael Bromwich, who had come to Houston to "investigate".   I didn't know in December 2000 that our Patrick's burned out Bronco found at Eldorado and Clear Lake City Blvd. was at a place where witnesses had seen a dark blue van coming and going in the hour before he died in an impossible scenario or that he was between Ellington Field and Houston Gulf Manor, the airport owned by the Bin Laden family, quickly ushered out of the country after 911 and bought with the help of Bath and the Saudi's royal banker.  Here is my caution to all parents: parts of our blessed government are criminal enterprises and nobody feels the duty to tell the truth!

     In 1980, John F. Maher sued the Bush family Zapata Corporation which many have asserted was the code name for the Bay of Pigs invasion force or “Operation Zapata”

   Maher, a major Zapata stock holder, charged that Zapata had violated the 1934 Securities and Exchange Committee Act.  The case was settled out of court. 

   Frank Vandiver was the Rice University historian who oversaw the Jefferson Davis Papers that provided the connections between Jefferson Davis, Caleb Cushing and Franklin Pierce before he succeeded Kenneth Pitzer as Rice President, then left Rice to take over the Mosher Defense Studies Institute at Texas A&M.  Kenneth Pitzer was, along with William Liscum Borden, a key witness against J. Robert Oppenheimer.   Oppenheimer, was wrongly stripped of his national security clearance by a federal commission headed by Gordon Gray, father of Bush attorney C. Boyden Gray, in a coordinated attack led by Roger Robb, defender of the secretive New York Port Authority CEO, Austin Joseph Tobin, under whose administration the World Trade Center was built with 13,000 tons of Mosher Steel placed in the first nine stories.
     The early wrangling of William Patrick Carr's father's quest to understand what happened to his son on December 10, 2000 was initially published on-line at http://patrickcarr.blogspot.com/2006/03/patrick-carr.html and was frequently updated for a time.   It provided an early overview of the evolution of  a father's investigation to piece together the facts in the case. The discovery of Patrick's connections to Rebecca Rather in Austin which were not known until 2015 when his father opened a stored box containing the waiter's apron Patrick had used at his college jobs in Austin the pocket of which contained the business card of Darryl Sneary, Rebecca Rather's business partner.    The relationship was confirmed through employment records and conversations with Patrick's friends.  "I am under no illusions that Pat's death will be reopened as a murder case in a region where crooked cops like those who sent Michael Lloyd Self to prison to die there in 2000 for crimes he did not commit and whose detectives on the case are still in jail for bank robbery.  But we live in a country where there is still no statue of limitation on murder.  I have written about Patrick's life and the dangers along the Houston to Galveston I-45 highway.  Proceeds from the sale will go to underwrite tuition for journalism students at the alma maters of Gary Webb and Peter Brewton for their part in not abandoning the role of the U.S.'s Fourth Estate."

ETHOS ON WAY TO THANATOS?

       When Woody Harrelson’s father was convicted (a charge he adamantly denied) of being hired by El Paso weapons and drug dealers to kill Judge John Howland Wood in San Antonio, Texas,  on May 29, 1979 a year before the 1980 election of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, a death that cleared the way for the appointment of William Sessions to take Wood's bench from which Sessions was elevated to the position of head of the FBI, little did Woody Harrelson know that the murder was arranged in Rockport, Texas, according to journalist and author Gary Cartwright.  Rockport sits squarely in the center of the largest sulphur dome in the world which through companies like Freeport McMoran in Freeport, Texas is the world’s supplier of sulphur for gunpowder.  Woody's father had lived in the Brazoria County of the Texas Gulf Coast a Louisana-like bayou region lined with the petro-chemical and sulfur manufacturers that feed the U.S. military industrialist complex.
     Henry Kissinger, whose longtime associate at Kissinger and Associates was the Iraqi Provisional Governor, L. Paul Bremer, has long been a director of Freeport McMoran which made its fortunes through the “Frasch Process” of bubbling the sulfur to the surface through high-pressure super-heated water.  Wall Steet banker, Bernard Baruch, monetized the Frasch process and a key component of war production was incentivized as part of the U.S. military industrialist complex.  After World War II both Dwight Eisenhower and Winston Churchill paid homage to Baruch with a visit to his New York 5th Avenue apartment for helping the U.S. to win World War II.  The very system that helped the Allies win, Eisenhower would warn against in his departing speech.  Former CIA agent, John Stockwell, born in Angleton, Texas, a city between Freeport and Houston, has provided an insider's perspective on the revolving need for this predominantly petro-chemical complex to manufacture enemies world-wide. "Enemies are necessary for the wheels of the U.S. military machine to turn," said Stockwell in a statement that echoes the book written by two-time Congressional Medal of Honor winner and Marine General Smedley Butler in his 1935 book, War Is A Racket.

      “Judge Johh H. 'Maximum John' Wood was known as a tight-fisted law and order judge, but also as a charter member of the Rockport Key Allegro community and he had written the deed restrictions into this community’s laws which were racist in the 1970’s well after the beginning of the civil rights movement,” said Elizabeth Pirkle of the Central Law and Journalism Consortium of Urbana, Illinois.

     “In his book, Dirty Dealing,  Gary Cartwright, an editor for Texas Monthly Magazine, celebrated book author and journalist tells us that the sister of Reagan’s EPA Director had married a Texas resident named Ray Caballero, a Hispanic.   In South Texas, Hispanics were not automatically included in the civil rights struggle of blacks and when Mr. and Mrs. Caballero were denied a home purchase in Judge Wood’s resort community Caballero pursued legal solutions.  The bigger story is Anne Gorsuch Burford, Caballero's sister-in-law and head of the Environmental Protection Agency from 1981-83, the nation's primary watchdog for petro-chemical pollution.   Burford was Ronald Reagan’s puppet for deregulation of the Environmental Protection Agency,” said Pirkle.

    Married for a time to Robert Burford, the Director of the Bureau of Land Management, Burford’s influence could be felt years after her death in Aurora, Colorado.    According to Joel Dyer writing for the Bolder Weekly Thursday, February 9, 2012  Burford and her assistant, Rita Lavelle left a legacy of corporate malfeasance (“How Reagan and the largest EPA Scandal in History May Explain Why Valmont Butte Is Still Contaminated: About Allied Chemical Pollution in Valmont Butte, Colorado…”)
 

Under Burford’s leadership, action at the EPA, or rather inaction, came quickly. The environmental agency’s enforcement actions dropped by 60 percent her first year as administrator. And of the $700 million that the EPA was owed in fines when she took office, she ended up collecting only $40 million. It was said, and not in jest, that it was her desire to put the agency she was appointed to lead out of business.

 

As for Superfund dollars being doled out by Lavelle in 1981 and 1982, an odd pattern seemed to be emerging. More than a few Democrats noticed that Republicans in districts with close re-election races were getting the Superfund dollars and the associated press coverage. Observers also noticed that the giant chemical companies, once the favorite target of EPA, didn’t seem to be on the agency’s radar hardly at all. Democrats knew that something wasn’t right, but getting to the bottom of it would prove a difficult task. It would also prove to be a difficult and frustrating time for the state of Colorado and its efforts to clean up Valmont Butte.

     Meanwhile, the use of lead in gasoline and paint which was banned in Europe fifty years before the health risks were claimed by U.S. manufactures and petro-chemical companies, the lead was replaced in gasoline with other products....specifically, titanium white.  The process of making this product produced an acid by-product (Assessing Potential Ocean Pollutants, The National Academy of Science, 1975, p. 316) that was dumped in the oceans like muriatic acid dumped in a backyard swimming pool.  “The world’s scientist were essentially becoming your pool man to check on just what the chemical you were adding and omitting were doing to the world’s oceans, but without any regulatory power to reduce the flow,” said Pirkle who noted that drinking heavy metals is not good for living things....lead, arsenic, mercury, gold, titanium and so forth.
      "With this background, it is not altogether clear who or what Woody Harrelson is nor the role he is taking in telling us that 2015 is the year to expect increased chaos based on 'peak oil' in a world that is increasingly dependent on shaking off the fossil fuel strait-jacket.   Indeed, by summer of 2015 gasoline prices were around $2.00 per gallon and dropping. Woody's lamenting the loss of American democracy while the U.S. was never a pure democracy, anyway, but a democratic republic which celebrates both honest and truthful representation and competent leadership that is not based on the old-world oligarchical models, is ironic,' said Pirkle.  "There is a  tyranny of the power elites and a tyranny of the uninformed and ignorant masses.  Is Harrelson normalizing our low expectations, resignation and sense of hopelessness or truly encouraging informed living?  What solutions does Ethos offer?" asked Pirkle.
     "I could argue that such a film would, for example, as much justify the building of the Keystone pipeline as to condemn it," said Pirkle who noted that Harrelson had, on the other hand, scaled the Golden Gate Bridge dropping from it a banner to protest the cutting of California redwood trees by a Houston, Texas businessman.

     “Woody Harrelson is in a good position to know and understand this unfolding of events.  After his father’s jailing for the murder of Judge Wood, Woody Harrelson went to a Presbyterian college so that when in the film White Men Can’t Jump he played the son of a Presbyterian minister, there was a direct parallel to his life in a kind of surreal way.  This is the religious denomination of President Woodrow Wilson, an unapologetic believer in the League of Nations, of Dwight Eisenhower and of the CIA's Alan Dulles and of the Bushes when they lived in Midland, Texas and before they joined the more oligarchical Anglican tradition.  It was the denomination of Ronald Reagan," said Pirkle.
      "Gary Cartwright noted that the men who hired Woody’s father to kill Judge Wood, the El Paso businessmen....the Chagra brothers....were Jimmy and Lee Chagra. The death of Judge Wood cleared his San Antonio seat for the appointment of future FBI director, the staunch Reagan/Bush supporter and appointee, William Sessions, according to Pirkle. Sessions could insure that Judge Wood, for all of his racial bigotry, wouldn't use his letter-of-the-law mentality and Southern parochialism to close in on a FinCEN investigation of the Saudi Arabian arms dealers and influence peddlers in Texas according to Pirkle.  "Judge Wood believed that the reason white men can't jump is because they don't have to," said Pirkle noting that the Houston Oiler, J.J. Watts, had proven that maxim a myth.  "What a Saudi oil sheik was to Judge John Howland Wood, or even the son of the Saudi royal builder who died in a San Antonio suburb less than a decade after Wood, Salem Bin Laden, will forever remain a mystery in the decades since Saudi influence peddling was becoming a national crisis in the 1970's and beyond.  Saudi influence on wars in the Middle East is still an issue exacerbated now by the rise of the bigger boogie man, namely the rise of ISIS," Pirkle surmised noting a college student who told Jeb Bush "your brother created ISIS" and mentioning the testimony in General Wesley Clark's book about a Bush/Neocon policy coup and plan to breed wars in the Middle East."
     According to Gary Cartwright, Jimmy Chagra, the employer of Woody Harrelson's father,  was an attorney for the Texas-based Bandidos who were involved in the 2015 gun battle with police in McClennan County, home in the 1980's to the leading Iran-Contra weapon supplier, Iranian, Farhad Azima.  Azima, who was as likely to take Saudi money for arming Iran against Iraq as "Freeway" Ricky Ross was at taking crack cocaine from CIA agents was a major contributor to Bill Clinton's library in Arkansas and whose attorney was Tennessee actor and politician, Fred Thompson.  
  "Waco in McLennan County is the home of the Crawford White House.  It was home to gun runner David Koresh and the Branch Davidian compound that went up in flames on the government charges that his wacky religious group were gun runners.  The FBI employed the same government sniper who killed Rebecca Weaver in a tragic incident in Idaho, Lon Tomohisa Horiuchi, for which the government was censured," said Pirkle, noting that the FBI agent overseeing the Weaver incident became the county sheriff in San Diego, California where he was threatening to use high frequency and potentially deadly sound weapons on public gatherings.
     The Bandido's founder, Donald Eugene "Mother" Chambers, from San Leon, Texas, a disgruntled former U.S. Marine, formed the motorcycle club near the Bin Laden airport only a few miles from Ellington Field.   Chambers was married in November of 1966 to Kaye Eileen Ellis, at St. Stephens' Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Phineas Washer officiating according to Pirkle.
     "It was not a broad stretch to conclude that when Cormac McCarthy wrote No Country for Old Men and used Tommy Lee Jones from San Saba, Texas, and Woody Harrelson combating the enigmatic Anton Chiguhr, the name Chagra sounds strangely similar by design.  The name Chagra was chosen by the Chagras for its impenetrable origin. The Chagras, though not of Latin American descent, were dark haired and dark skinned and as Lebanese with a totally different Latin sounding name, moved freely along the porous Texas/Mexican border,” said Pirkle noting that the Del Rio hotel scene in the McCarthy movie was filmed in Las Vegas, San Miguel County, New Mexico, home to the Dan Rather and Donald Rumsfeld co-owned 9,000 acre Tercolote Ranch.   “Now you can understand just how Osama Bin Laden’s brother died not far away in an ultra-light airplane crash in San Antonio, Texas or how he had purchased the Houston Gulf Manor Airport with money from the Saudi royal banker and Bush's Air National Guard roommate which after September 11, 2001 was razed to build over it a Tuscan style neighborhood like that built over the Brio Superfund site nearby or why with a FinCEN 'stand down' order on a Texas investigation we missed the 911 hijackers.  No wonder the Bin Ladens were ushered out of the country so quickly after 911, forget about it being false flag even, either way our leaders were culpable.  That Brio site required 700 homes to be raked off since they were like the Love Canal experience…..or Hinckley, California…..built on top of a Monsanto waste dump,” said Pirkle noting the accompanying run on  the Superfund money. 
     Pirkle noted that after Salem's death the mainline media announced that the elder Bin Laden was flying not an ultra-light, but his BAC-111 in stories that raised, then disputed, Salem's involvement in the Iran-Contra related "October Surprise" that stalled the release of the Iran hostages until after the election of Reagan in 1980....a fact that would have made Salem a severe political liability and potential blackmailer in a web of hard to manage and unwanted political risk.  When the BAC-111 story was carried by NPR with its obvious ties to the U.S. Information Agency, it was later retracted, but just how long the wrong story floated around to allay suspicions that a trained jet pilot had run into a high power line on take-off is not known.  Salem's business partner in Houston was GWB's Air National Guard roommate which was the information that Michael Moore's film, Fahrenheit 911, exposed and which the Bush family wanted hidden from the American people.    This is the same roommate who was the focus of the FinCEN Investigation in Texas....the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network's look into improper Saudi Arabian influence peddling in the U.S..  
      "Had FinCEN been run with a proper passion we'd have nabbed Mohammed Atta and the others," said Pirkle.  "That investigation received a type of shelving during the 1992 election and, as the Michael Moore film demonstrated, they didn't want that story, like the 2004 Rather/Mapes memo story, to resurface.  The memos went back to the early 70's and could have been political fodder in several Presidential campaigns including 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992 and, most importantly, 2000," said Pirkle.

     Pirkle sees a connection between Ethos and the coming film, Truth, about the 2004 Dan Rather story about GWB's Texas Air National Guard memos that ended up costing Rather and Mapes their jobs at CBS.  "People are asking 'if Mapes admitted that she knew about this story in 1999 as she says in her book, Truth and Duty, then why didn't she feel the duty to tell the American people in 2000 when we could have done something to stop the god-damn-dest period of bamboozlings and war racketeering since the U.S. Civil War?   I want to ask Woody if he knew that Cormac McCarthy's film No Country for Old Men was filmed in Las Vegas, New Mexico where Dan Rather and U.S. Secretary of Defense....you know, the one that Richard Nixon.....Richard Nixon......called that 'ruthless little bastard'......Donald Rumsfeld.....where Rumsfeld and Rather owned a 9,000 acre ranch together.  I also want to know how it was that Mapes and Rather got a Peabody Award for their CBS coverage....their 'breaking coverage'.... of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in 2004 when Amnesty International was reporting on it in 2003.   Report on that Woody," said Pirkle.

     Dyer said of Rita Lavelle, Anne Gorsuch’s assistant at the EPA who actually did jail time for her role there and who met frequently with corporate polluters…..

     So while it could be construed that such meetings were not absolutely against the law, they were if Lavelle was meeting privately with companies that had contaminated sites being investigated at the time by the EPA for possible enforcement actions. Companies who were meeting with Lavelle included Allied, Dow, Monsanto, Chevron, Dupont and Union Carbide. While it is likely that Allied had several contaminated sites in the crosshairs of the EPA in 1982, we know for absolute certainty that there was at least one while the company was holding its inappropriate meetings with Lavelle: Allied’s Valmont Butte Mill, which the CDPHE had put forward in 1982 for inclusion on the NPL.

     As the extent of Levelle’s questionable actions began to see the light of day in media accounts, even Reagan headed for cover by giving up on his claims of executive privilege and clearing the way for the congressional investigation to move forward. It was a bloodbath for the EPA.

    "I wouldn't be surprised if the very people who know this crock of putrid pabulum found their family members' dying from cancerous eyeballs, lesion-laden ovaries and childhood leukemia on the one hand, or through inexplicable deaths on the other.  That 2000 Presidential election had a lot riding on it, not that EPA fines, as Burford and Levelle proved, would really alter things all that much.  Only a new ethos will do that.   Like the health and welfare of the planet anyone near this waste basket of the piss-ant politicians and corporation slime balls who looked the other way would....like Mark Lombardy who connected the dots to the Iran-Contra fiasco and the S&L scandal which also included many of the same connections or like Gary Webb who connected the same dots to the same players, would have been targets of retaliation in both 2000 and 2004," said Pirkle. 
     Pirkle noted that the Iran-Contra investigator imported to uncover irregularities in Houston's Medical's Examiners office where the secrets related to Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911 disclosure of James R. Bath's place in the 2004 GWB Air National Guard story was very significant, was Michael Bromwich.  With various death's along the I-45 corridor in Houston where the Bin Laden's owned their airport near the world's largest petro-chemical corridor you can understand why it was Bromwich who was selected to uncover...or to keep secret....irregularities at the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.   He was the Iran-Contra firewaller for a Reagan and Bush potential impeachment over the violation of the Boland Amendment.    Bromwich went on to oversee the Deep Water Horizon investigation for the U.S. government.   GHWB offered pardons to unstick the Bromwich convictions of Weinberger, Abrams, North and Poindexter.
    "This whole thing is white washed like a dusting of titanium white," said Pirkle who noted that Houston was also home to General Raymond T. Odierno's Red Team leader in Iraq, Col. Jeff Ragsdale, who had taken a leadership role at Helping A Hero, the embattled veteran's charity that provided George W. Bush a $100,000 speaker's fee, but was unable to initially deliver on the promise of a new home for a veteran who had failed to lose an arm or leg in Iraq or Afghanistan and thus found his fund raising potential for the charity pinched.  I would not want to be anywhere near this organization," said Pirkle who noted that the first administrator of the charity, a wife of a U.S. Army Lt. Colonel, a charity founded in 2007, had lost her son, an Eagle Scout and 23-year-old in an inexplicable car fire that same year.  Pirkle provided a copy of Megan Chuchmach and Brian Ross' July 8, 2015 ABC story, "To Help US Veterans Charity, Bush Charged $100,000." 
     "The boy's fiery death sounds suspiciously similar to another near Ellington Field on the same night four years to the day of the death of Gary Webb who had resigned on the same night of December 10, 1997 from his San Jose Mercury News position," said Pirkle. 
     "That young man happened to have the same as the son of Mrs. Marion Carr Knox who defended his mother's GWB Ellington Field memo stories in 2004," Pirkle asserted.  She noted that the other Patrick Carr, had moved from Austin to League City where the Bin Laden airport was located.  In Austin he had worked with the business partner's of Dan Rather's neice.    He was the nephew of the fishing buddy of the Mayor of Kemah and attorney and business partner for James R. Bath. 
     Marion Carr Knox was Dan Rather and Mary Mapes' key witness in the CBS 60 Minutes story that cost them their jobs after Bush lawyer Dick Thornburg and the AP's head, Louis Boccardi, visited Marion Carr Knox and afterward falsely asserted that she had recanted.  "Her son defended her account in 2004 and 2005, but if he had been anywhere near Ellington Field in 2000 like the other young man with the same name?  Holy cow!" said Pirkle.
    "Jeff Ragsdale was stationed, not surprisingly, at Ellington Field, the focus of Bush's Air National Guard story and Ragsdale was working closely not only with General Ray Ordierno, but with JSOC's commander, Admiral William McRaven, who is now the Chancellor of the University of Texas, but who never mentions Jeremy Scahill's documentary, Dirty Wars," said Pirkle.  "Ordierno's top assistant was Emma Sky whose book, The Unraveling: High Hopes and Missed Opportunities in Iraq never mentions that the hodge-podge of a national raping that we experienced as the GWB Iraq war was unraveled from the start!  I think Emma Sky, a close associate of MI-6 head, John Sawer, must have been in the room when the British 'Downing Street Memo' was scotch-taped together from the pages of Alice in Wonderland," said Pirkle.
     "McRaven grew up in San Antonio, Texas fifteen or twenty minutes from Cibolo where Salem Bin Laden's strange death occurred in 1988 and where the little airport is now owned by a former commander of Offuts Air Force base and retired head of the National Reconnaissance Office one of our 'big five' intelligence agencies," said Pirkle.
    "Is it any wonder that Houston's only newspaper, the Houston Chronicle, has imported its new managing editor from the Washington Post whose reporter Jeff Leen tried to destroy Gary Webb and whose managing editor, Steve Coll, is now the Henry Luce Professor and head of the journalism school at Columbia University?  That is the former Washington Post metro editor, Vernon Loeb, who churned up the falsified Pat Tillman death details, the Jessica Lynch embellishments designed for building consent for war while joining Paula Broadwell to co-write All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.  So the petro-chemical corridor has had two major firewallers in the last decade....Bromwich and Loeb.....and don't forget that at UT was Kenneth Pitzer, also from Rice University in Houston,  whose testimony was key to killing Oppenheimer's career when the father of the atom bomb whose dreams for nuclear energy was a threat to big oil, was charged falsely with treasonous activities," said Pirkle.
    "Well, at least McRaven has to go to work everyday in a building that has carved in granite above the quadrangle "Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free," said Pirkle.  "On the other hand, it's in Austin where a leading hydrogen fuel-cell researcher at UT who was working on the answer to that would ally our fears of 'peak oil' died while riding his bicycle on Congress Avenue without witnesses and where the wife of Jimmy Joste, a member of GWB's father's church in Houston shot and killed Joste, a pioneer in directional oil drilling and therefore a key oil cartel champion, for fear of what friends of the Bushes were capable of doing," said Pirkle. 
     "As for Woody Harrelson?  Only Woody can tell us the truth about his motives and ambitions.  With his unique background and traumatized childhood he is in a perfect position to be a transparent mouth piece for change or a well-programmed normalizer of lowered cultural expectations and fear-mongering as some critics of Ethos have asserted," Pirkle posited.  "Harrelson essentially says that our war is over and offers no real solutions when he states in Ethos that freedom of speech is dead and habeas corpus is gone, and I'm not at all sure how to take him," Pirkle admitted, "but my freedom of speech isn't over.  Not by a long shot. Come and take it!  Bring it on!  I'll be mouthing it to the bitter end....'FREEDOM!'."

   With the upcoming film TRUTH about the Dan Rather/Mary Mapes 2004 story of George Walker Bush's Air National Guard service, the memos typed by Mrs. Marian Carr Knox which were then recreated by parties unknown and presented by CBS's 60 Minutes as the originals and then as forgeries sources close to the University of Texas, Southern Methodist University and Rice University political science departments are asking for a joint consortium, a media analysis and movie review of the film after it is shown at the San Antonio, Texas Majestic Theater, Dallas' AT&T Stadium, Houston's Contemporary Art Museum.
    "The Houston Museum of Contemporary Art was home to curator Mark Lombardi whose carefully drawn sketches of the Iran-Contra network in Houston was deemed so representative a sample of political artwork that it was featured at New York's Whitney Museum," said Bardwell T. Lacqor of PAFBC, Political Activists for Brush and Canvass, in Flushing , New York who noted Lombardi's death in 2000, a year filled with inexplicable deaths of those close to the Iran-Contra and FinCEN investigation in Texas.
     "We celebrate this marvelous example of student interest in not accepting the muzzling of American journalism and media.   The showing of the Rather/Mapes story will help to open the Pandora's Box of political white washing in America and help to usher in a breath of fresh air," said Lacqor.
     "I am delighted that in addition to the new film being reviewed by political science students that their energy will be focused by reviews of the book by Ben Barnes the former Texas Lt. Governor who was sitting on the 2004 Rather/Mapes story in 1992 and in 2000 when George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush ran for the nation's highest political office.  To help focus student's on this aspect of the Rather/Mapes story students will be handed a copy of a review of Barnes' book Barn Burning Barn Building: Tales of a Political Life, From LBJ to George W. Barnes' interview with Rather in 2004 explains that he knew the story in 2000....well, all the way back to the GWB National Guard appointment since he was the keeper of the keys at the time. That means that he knew the story in 2000 and had decided that "Gore didn't need it." Would the world have been a different place if someone who had been elected that would release modern science from the shackles of Texas' fossil fuel cartel centered in Houston: America super-sized? It begs the question. New ubiquitous fuel sources unleashed behind a new mindset could have been a sweeping breath of fresh carbon reduced air. Instead the world remains muzzled like Copernicus and Galileo under house arrest by the Vatican, Mecca and Medina of the old fossils of fossilized fuel sources. Had FINCEN been allowed to continue its course it could have netted the 911 hijackers, 15 of which were from Saudi Arabia while Salem bin Laden died in Shertz, Texas in 1988 falsely reported by CBS's Lowell Bergman to have flown his BAC-111 into the ground when it was an ultra-light and while Salem's banker and GWB's friend, James Bath, had purchased the Houston Gulf Manor Airport that was razed after 911. To my knowledge Bergman never corrected the error. If so I wish someone would show me where! With 2016 approaching and the real story of the Barnes' barn burning still untold there is still time for a REAL barn burner! As Peter Brewton had shown in his 1992 book, THE MAFIA, CIA and GEORGE BUSH, Barnes had a front row seat on the circus and didn't tell those in the tent of the rogue elephants running around under the big top. This proved tragically fatal for much more than Al Gore's Presidential hopes. If Rather and Mapes have a conscience they will tell the world why they were silent in 2000 on a story they embraced with relish and the grace of two dancing rogue elephants in 2004!
